Exquisite Bhutanese Textiles&Crafts
ABOUT
Kelzang handicraft was one of the first handicraft shops in Thimphu. Kelzang Wangmo aka Jambay, who runs the shop is from Khoma village in Lhuntse which is famed for the exquisite 'Kishutharas'. She was only ten when she started weaving in her village. Education opportunities were rare at the time and even more unlikely for those with little means to go to school. At 16 she moved to Thimphu with her family. Jambay and her two sisters wove kiras and ghos and sold them to office workers and well-off people. In recent times they have won several awards for their designs from the Royal Textile Academy.Jambay designs most of the textiles at her shop from kiras to table runners, place mats, scarves, stoles, etc. She has women weaving for her in Thimphu as well as in Lhuntse
